Belitung, An Echanting Island (Part 2)

You will never have enough of sea. Every once in a while, when you got tired and frustrated with your everyday life, going to nice beach and sea is always a good idea. After exploring the local cultural places in Belitung Timur on the first day, we finally came to enjoy the main attraction of this area: the Island Hopping!

We departed from our hotel at around 8.30am to Tanjung Kelayang Beach, in which we took of the boat and started our islands hopping adventures. Belitung has a super hot and humid weather. However, we got lucky because that day, when we were supposed to do the island hopping, the weather suddenly becomes super friendly.

Lengkuas Island

Our first destination was Lengkuas Island and we took some times for snorkeling on our way to this island. I think this is one of the landmark that you must visit when you are in Belitung. There is the infamous lighthouse tower in which you can go up to 19 floors to see the whole Belitung Island.

Kepayang Island

We had our lunch here. There is one restaurant which servers free-flow Belitung coffee and tea here. People went crazy when talking about Belitung coffee. However, for me it’s not as good as all the fuss that people talked about. Belitung doesn’t have their own coffee. They made their own specialty coffee by mixing some of the coffee beans from other regions in Sumatrans, then what makes it special is their way to ‘cook’ the coffee. I heard they boiled the coffee powder along with water when serving the coffee. But, their ‘pisang goreng’ or fried banana is amazing!

Batu Berlayar Island

Most of the islands in Belitung has a bunch of big stones which is amazing. For this one island, they have stones which looks like ‘layar’ or sails boat. People usually went up above the stones and took pictures from above.

There are still some other islands in our island hopping destinations which I didn’t put the photos here because I was unable to take pictures, such as: Burung Island, Pasir Island, and many others!

Satisfied with the sea vitamins we’ve just been through, we went back to Tanjung Kelayang Beach by boat and took shower to clean ourselves there. The next agenda was super exciting. Can you guess? Of course, the sunset hunting!

Sunset Hunting at Tanjung Tinggi Beach

This beach is very well-known, since it’s the location where Laskar Pelangi movie took place. It’s full of huge (not only big, but huge) stones. Strolling around the beach for a while, our host led us to a perfect spot to watch sunset. We need to go up above the huge stones and reserve a spot to wait for the sunset. It was super amazing! Who doesn’t love sunset anyway? It was just magical.

Lor In Beach

On our way back to the hotel, we drop by Lor In Beach which is located right besides Tanjung Tinggi Beach. This beach is just right by the road and there is a famous villa across the street. We caught another beautiful sunset there.

We were super tired, but the whole day was worth it though. We went back to the hotel with a happy heart. We even celebrated my dad’s birthday at night. We didn’t plan much for the agenda on the 3rd day. We just wanted to chill out and visit some other places and beach that we haven’t visited on the previous day.

People said, if you haven’t gone to any of the eastern part of Indonesia, Belitung is not a place you would want to miss. It was a great experience to refresh your body and mind though.
